2018 Distinguished Alumni Recipients

    Sister Roxanne Schares and Jim Lavenz have been named Don Bosco’s Distinguished Alumni for the 2017-2018 school year. They were recognized at the graduation ceremony on May 20, 2018, in the Don Bosco Gym.

    Sister Roxanne graduated with the class of 1969. She has held many leadership roles throughout her career including Religious education coordinator for the Kisii Diocese in Africa, International Shalom contact and worked with the Jesuit Refugee Service in Tanzanian refugee camps and Nairobi. She is now The General Superior of the School Sisters of Notre Dame and residing in Rome. Sister Roxanne’s award was accepted by her family with her sister-in-law, LeighAnne Schares, reading a letter from Sister Roxanne.

    Jim Lavenz graduated with the class of 1974. He has many degrees to his credit including  Electronics Engineering from Hawkeye Tech. He then worked at Rockwell in Cedar Rapids. While working ,he obtained a computer science degree at Mount Mercy and a Master of Business degree at Nova Southeastern University. He is credited with designing electronic warfare and surveillance products that prevented many deaths from offensive military weapons over the years. Sadly Jim passed away in 2008. His award was accepted by his wife Susie and son Tim.
